“We should be patient if we want to win the 2013 7s Rugby World Cup and the Olympic gold medal in 2016.”
Those are the words of Fiji Rugby Union Chairman, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga after the Digicel Fiji 7s lost to Samoa 14-12 in the semifinal of the USA 7s this morning.
While the rugby public on a talk-back show on our sister station Viti FM expressed their disappointment on the performance of the Fiji 7s team, Tikoitoga believes that the coach and players will improve with time.
Tikoitoga added the rugby fans cry for the results to come now from the team is a bit too much knowing what they are up against in the IRB 7s series.
Fiji’s most successful Rugby World Cup coach and former Wallabies 7s and 15s rep, Ilivasi Tabua said that critics will always be there when a team does not do well.
The Fiji 7s team finished in 3rd spot in the USA 7s after beating South Africa 21-15.
Meanwhile, the Samoan 7s rugby team is the winner of the USA 7s after beating New Zealand 26-19 in the final.
It was a nail biting final with the score locked at 19 all at fulltime before Alafoti Faosiliva scored the winning try.
After the USA 7s, New Zealand is leading the IRB series points table with 92 points.
Fiji is still in second place with 87 points followed by South Africa on 76 points, England on 74 points and Samoa in 5th place with 69 points.
The next leg of the IRB 7s series will be held in Hong Kong from the 23rd to the 25th of March.
