The Fiji Rugby Union could be forced to redraw the Rugby World Cup lottery tickets after the Commerce Commission found that its decision to change the ticket prices was in breach of five sections of the Commerce Decree 2010.
Following an investigation by the Commerce Commission, a directive was issued for the FRU to refrain from proceeding with the disbursal of prizes until further orders.
Commission Chairman Doctor Mahendra Reddy said FRU has been given five days from yesterday to show cause as to why they should not be penalized for the five breaches and also to reimburse $10 to all those people that had bought the ticket for the initial price of $20.
He said once the Commission is satisfied then only will a decision be made on the next course of action.
When asked by Fijivillage if this could mean a redraw, Doctor Reddy said that option is also being looked at.
According to the Commission findings, FRU has breached the Commerce Commission Decree 2010 - FRU has been found to be in contravention of the Commerce Decree for deceptive or misleading conduct, for unconscionable conduct, for false or misleading representation, for misleading conduct in relation to goods and for failure to provide gifts and prizes as offered.
When contacted earlier today, FRU Chairman Bill Gavoka refused to make any comments.
