The Fiji Roads Authority says it is aware of the condition of the most severely deteriorated roads in the Suva area and is taking steps to rectify the situation.

Chief Executive Officer, Johnathan Moore says the necessary termination of the contract for the Suva Arterial Road Upgrading Project 2 delayed their reconstruction programme by approximately 15 months.

Moore adds because of this, 5 roads that were part of the Suva Arterial Road Upgrading Project 2 scope have been removed and will be fully reconstructed over the next 12 months.

These roads include Amy Street, Brown Street, Milverton Road, Ratu Mara Road including Nabua Bypass and Waimanu Road.

The CEO says the remaining roads under the SARUP 2 scope are being retendered as 4 separate contracts.

He says the work has been split to reduce the construction delivery period for each road and to widen the pool of contractors that can tender for the work.

Moore says the work on-site is scheduled to commence at the end of 2020 and is expected to be completed by early 2022.
