Acting Chief Executive of Fiji Roads Authority Sonal Goundar says all FRA personnel and contractor around the country and maritime islands are currently undertaking reconnaissance of the damage sustained by the FRA infrastructure from the torrential rain and resulting floods in the last three days.

Goundar says his team is also monitoring flood water levels for planning and deployment of contractors for remediation works.

He says their teams are working around the clock to ensure the roads are accessible for emergency and recovery services.

He says that fit-for-purpose remedial works will commence as soon as the weather is favorable for construction.

The Acting CEO adds initial damage assessments suggest that the damage to low-level crossings was caused by flood debris building up against structures and diverting the flood waters to the road approaches, which caused the structural damage and washout of approaches.
