FRA prohibites their contractor from working during peak traffic hours in Nakasi

The Fiji Roads Authority has stressed that they have prohibited their contractor from working during peak traffic hours at the junction of Kings Highway and Adi Davila Road in Nakasi.

CEO Jonathan Moore has also stated to minimize the disruption and congestion, they have permitted the contractor to work at night with appropriate traffic management and safety precautions.

He adds they are actively managing traffic at the junction during peak hours in conjunction with the Fiji Police.

Legend FM News has however received several reports from the public that in the past couple of days, they have been stuck in traffic from Rewa Bridge up to Valelevu for more than an hour and a half.

Moore says FRA is aware of early morning congestion at the junction of Kings Highway and Adi Davila Road in Nakasi in recent days.

The CEO further adds they are currently in the final stages of completing the 4‑lane upgrade of Kings High and one of the last activities is the installation of traffic signals at this junction.

He says the new road cannot be opened to 4‑lanes until this, and all other signals along the upgraded section are operational.

Moore highlighted the nature of the work to install signals is such that a degree of disruption and congestion is inevitable during road works.

He adds the opening of the 4‑lane section has been delayed as they had targeted opening at the end of June but were forced to stop night‑work due to the danger it presented to their workforce.

Moore says they have also lost time due to adverse weather at critical sealing times for the new road works and an unplanned breakdown at the Walu Bay asphalt plant.

He says they are currently  on track to open the four lane section by mid August this year.
