FNU urges students to seek support after newborn found at Natabua Campus

Following the discovery of an abandoned newborn at one of the hostels at Natabua Campus in Lautoka, the Fiji National University has urged students to access the free, confidential counselling and health services offered across all campuses or to speak with staff members they feel comfortable with.

Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nii-K Plange emphasised the need for greater awareness, empathy, and support for students who may be experiencing personal or emotional hardship.

Professor Plange says the university remains committed to supporting these efforts, and their immediate concern is for the safety and well-being of both the newborn and the mother.

He described the situation as heartbreaking and deeply emotional.

He says their hearts go out to the innocent child and mother, and they pray they both receive the love, care, and protection they deserve.

He adds that in the meantime, their thoughts remain with both the newborn and the mother during this painful and difficult time.
