Accountants in public practice whether calculatingly or otherwise have escaped the ire of the public.

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama speaking at the Fiji Institute of Accountants congress meeting, raised cases of the Fiji National Provident Fund's 327 million dollar write down and the National Bank of Fiji which cost taxpayers $372 million in total, to drive his concerns on professional misconduct which if left unchecked could be detrimental to the economy.

Is it only the fault of the directors and managements of the FNPF board that FNPF has had to write down an excess of $300 million from its books?

This is the question posed by Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to the participants at the Fiji Institute of Accountants at the Shangri La Fijian Resort yesterday.

Bainimarama says the accountants and auditors responsible for FNPF's books at the time in question should have highlighted the irregularities which could have also avoided the FNPF writing down more than $300 million of its assets.
