FNPF pensioners who had their pension rates reduced unjustly have received additional support from the coalition government.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says for pensioners who are 70 years and over, a monthly allowance of $125 has been paid backdated to August 2023 and those below the age of 70 have been paid a monthly allowance of $115 for the last 5 months.

He says the military regime in 2011 had unilaterally and illegally reduced the pension rates for many FNPF pensioners and broke the contractual arrangement between the Fund and the pensioners.

They went even further to pass a law to restrict these pensioners from challenging this in the court or law.

The government also continues discussions with FNPF to restore full justice to the pensioners most appropriately and feasibly.
