The Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption is now working with Immigration and Police to locate former Deputy General Manager of FNPF, Foana Nemani who was to appear in Court today.
The case was called this morning however Nemani was not present in person and FICAC prosecutor Shalini Sanmorgan made a submission to High Court Judge, Justice Priyantha Fernando seeking more time as they are working with the authorities to locate Nemani.
Justice Fernando then asked FICAC as to who is Nemani’s surety to which the court heard that Nemani’s husband was her surety and he is also abroad.
The case has been adjourned to the 17th of November for FICAC, along with Police and Immigration to locate Nemani.
Foana Nemani and former General Manager of FNPF, Olota Rokovunisei is facing charges of “Extortion by Public Officers” and “Abuse of Office”.
They are alleged to have, between July and September 2006, whilst being employed by FNPF defrauded FNPF by authorizing payment of responsibility allowance for each other the sum of $33,333.00 to Rokovunisei and $35,911.15 to Nemani without authorization.
Meanwhile, Rokovunisei also appeared in court today and his case has also been adjourned for two weeks for him to find legal counsel.
His case will be called on the 25th of this month and Rokovunisei has been told that the court will not tolerate any more delays in proceedings.
