The Fiji Electricity Authority is seriously considering an increase in tariffs in light of the devaluation of the Fiji dollar coupled with the increasing price of diesel.
At a press conference this morning, FEA CEO Hasmuk Patel stressed that there is not many options available to shoulder the increasing costs of providing power to the people.
Patel said with the Weather Office forecasting an El Nino effect during the dry season from June to October, they will now preserve water at Monasavu and utilize generators during the period.
The CEO also said another option that they have is to re-look at the possibility of applying for a fuel surcharge to be implemented again as it was removed a two months ago.
