The Fiji Manufacturers Association said the Fiji Electricity Authority's idea to request 40 businesses to generate their own power is a good one.
President Desmond Whiteside said if businesses can generate their own power and if this move can help the power shortage than why not.
However, the Fiji Employers Federation President Dixon Seeto questioned as to who will subsidize the extra costs that will be incurred by the businesses that do generate their own power, adding that the FEA should be clear on how and what they plan to do in accounting for extra costs that will come about.
The FEA will ask 40 businesses in the country to generate their own electricity as there is a water shortage at the Monasavu Dam to generate power for everyone.
The Authority said this will be a great help as they only have enough power to supply to residential areas.
