11 traders have been charged with contravening provisions under the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission Act 2010 following the second phase of investigations for the Homes‑CARE and Farms‑CARE initiative.
The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission says they have received complaints from members of public who are recipients of the programme, that certain traders were engaging in unethical business practices.
They say that the taskforce set‑up by the commission undertook an investigation on all the matters arising following which the traders have been charged.
The traders have been charged with, unconscionable conduct, failure to mark prices, failure to furnish information, overcharging, false or misleading representation and accepting payment without being able to supply, under the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission Act 2010.
8 traders were from the Western Division while 3 are from the North.
The third phase of investigations for the Homes‑CARE and Farms‑CARE initiative will commence soon.
The Commission says they are actively investigating all cases relating to the CARE initiative and more traders may be charged if found to be contravening provisions of the Act.
