The Digicel Fiji Sevens team’s efforts of trying to win a back to back title for the first time in the World Sevens Series in Dubai was spoiled by England this morning.
England successfully defended their Dubai Sevens title after defeating France in the final 29-12.
Though England won coach Ben Ryan is still not satisfied with the win.
England beat Fiji by 19-12 in a nail biting semifinal encounter despite Fiji scoring first after 33 seconds to Emosi Vucago.
British Army soldier Isoa Damudamu was the star for England as he scored two tries in two minutes.
Fiji came back strongly in the last quarter of the game as Osea Kolinisau scored Fiji’s second try.
Kolinisau later made a desperate dash for the try line to level the scores and take the game into extra time but he was caught short by a very determined England speedster Dan Norton.
Fiji later beat Argentina in the 3rd place playoffs, 26-21 in extra time.
Looking at the points table after Dubai, Fiji still lead with 39 points, followed by England with 32, and then France, South Africa and New Zealand all have 29 points.
The IRB World Sevens Series now heads to Port Elizabeth in South Africa for the George Sevens next weekend.
