England thrashes Fiji in Medal Semi Final

The Vodafone Fiji 7s team suffered a 40-7 humiliating defeat to England in the Vancouver 7s Medal semifinal.

England demolished Fiji as they had 90 percent of the possession in the game and scored six tries.

Fiji was outclassed in many areas of the game as the English dominated play in the kick offs, breakdowns and on attack.

Poor defence and lack of urgency at times also played a big part as England outmuscled the Olympic champions.

Our players also looked tired and were falling off tackles.

England was clinical in the restarts as they controlled the game, dominated the breakdowns, and continued to slip through Fiji’s weak defence.

Fiji’s consolation try was scored by Captain Osea Kolinisau in the last minute.

England was leading 19-0 at half time after dominating the first half.

Meanwhile England won the Vancouver 7s and their second tournament of the World Rugby Sevens Series after beating South Africa 19-7 in the final.

Simon Amor's side beat the Blitzboks for the second time in the final of the six tournaments and are the only side on the series to topple Neil Powell's outfit in the 2016-17 series.

The victory puts them into second overall in the series table with 103 points, South Africa remains on top with 126 points from their four tournament wins out of six.

Fiji now drops to third place with 100 points after a close 28-24 win over USA in the Bronze final.

Fiji scored four converted tries to give something back for the Fijian fans who had turned up in numbers to cheer for their heros.

Not even 30 seconds on the clock and Waisea Nacuqu scored the first try.

Later in the second minute USA speed merchant Perry Baker hit back with his 100th career try.

The other tries were scored by Samisoni Viriviri, Vatemo Ravouvou and Setareki Bituniyata.

England defeated South Africa 19-7 in the medal final to win the Vancouver 7s.

They played in the pool stages yesterday and that game ended in a 12-all draw.

Meanwhile South Africa defeated USA 14-10 to reach their sixth final of the 2016-2017 World Sevens Series.

South Africa has won four tournaments in the series so far.

They have won the Dubai, Wellington, Sydney and Las Vegas 7s tournaments.

England won the Cape Town 7s after beating South Africa in the final last year.

Meanwhile the next leg will be held next month.

The Hong Kong 7s will be staged from April 7th to 9th.
