It was an emotional start for Suva Grammar School U17 player, Maikeli Radua Jnr, before their Vodafone Super Deans quarter final clash with Shri Guru Nanak Khalsa College Labasa.

Tears rolled down his face as his jersey was presented by relatives from Tokatoka, Tailevu, and a teammate’s parent — a moment usually shared with his late father, Maikeli Radua Snr, a well-known VITIFM radio personality, who died in a tragic road accident in March this year.

Radua Jnr gave it his all on the field, making his mother and siblings proud.

One teammate’s parent wrote on social media that while he may have lost his father, he has now gained 35 more in his U17 rugby family.

Grammar went on to beat Shri Guru Nanak Khalsa College Labasa 41–12.

Meanwhile, Suva Grammar will feature in five grades during the semi finals this weekend and that include the U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18.
