Efforts are now underway to ensure that all the families that need ration packs are provided with the basic needs.

National Disaster Management Office Director, Akapusi Tuifagalele says ration distribution is underway in Naitasiri, Tailevu, Ra, Ba, Tavua, Taveuni, Savusavu, Koro, Vanuabalavu and other islands.

When asked on the number of families that have received the assistance, Tuifagalele said they are still gathering the numbers from all the divisions.

There are reports that ration packs are being distributed in the interior of Naitasiri, Tailevu, Ra and Ba. Residents of these areas were contacting us earlier this week, saying that they needed assistance.

SHELTER

There are plans to put up tents and tarpaulins for families who are currently staying at the evacuation centres.

Tuifagalele says this is the only option available as the schools that are being used as evacuation centres have to be prepared for classes to resume.

53,640 people are still staying at evacuation centres around the country.

DISMAC says 80 schools have been damaged by Cyclone Winston while

60 school buildings have been destroyed.

60,239 students have been affected after the school damages.
