Education Ministry sets up disaster risk resilient department

The Ministry for Education has set up a disaster risk resilient department to look after any disasters that are confronting schools in the various districts and divisions.

This was highlighted by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro while responding to Opposition MP Premila Kumar’s question if there is any policy in place to ensure that schools are protected from fire and natural disasters.

He says in terms of the utilisation of the free education grant, the responsibility is still with the school management, and they have encouraged schools that have not utilised sections of the free education grant, they can write to them so that they can collaborate and discuss better utilisation of those unutilised free education grants.

While speaking on the Vatuwaqa Primary School reconstruction, Radrodro says they are still trying to get in touch with the trustees of Vatuwaqa Primary School.
