Education Minister urges compassion for young mother after baby found in campus washroom

Education Minister urges compassion for young mother after baby found in campus washroom
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro

The Ministry of Education is calling on members of the public to show compassion and refrain from defaming the young mother of the child that was recently found in a washroom of a university in Lautoka.

Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro says the student and her baby are now under the care of health authorities, and is asking people to respect their privacy.

He has urged the public to understand that as a young teenager, the mental health of the new mother is very important to be protected and assisted by relevant authorities.

Radrodro says it is not in anyone’s interest to condemn or judge the young girl who needs support and love at this stage. The Minister is also directing Ministry of Education officials to ensure counseling is made available to the young mother who is a student at the university.

As the Fiji Police Force investigates the incident, welfare officers from the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection are working closely with the Police and health authorities to ensure the baby receives the care and protection needed.
