Dubai 7s: Fiji beats France to win bronze

The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side have won bronze at the Dubai 7s after beating France 24-7.

Fiji's hopes of defending their Dubai title flew out the window after they were outplayed 24-21 by New Zealand in the second semifinal.

Fiji were finally able to get their revenge against France who beat them in pool play as they ran in four tries to skipper Jeremaia Matana, Terio Veilawa, Manueli Maisamoa and try scoring machine Vuiviwa Naduvalo.

Fiji led 10-7 at the break.

In an interview after the game, Coach Osea Kolinisau says it is not easy to come back after losing in a big semifinal and they needed the points to stay in contact with the leaders as it is a long series.

The Fiji team breezed easily past Argentina 26-19 in their first pool game, dispatching South Africa 28-10 before going down to France 24-19 and then being edge by New Zealand in their semifinal.

The team will now reset as they get ready for the Cape Town 7s in South Africa coming up in the weekend ahead.
