Drunk driving leaves one man in custody, another in hospital

A 37-year-old man from Lautoka is in custody for causing an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Police, the man was driving along Sukanaivalu Road yesterday when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a 40-year-old account clerk who was standing on the roadside.

The victim is currently admitted at Lautoka Aspen Hospital, while the suspect remains in custody.

In a separate incident yesterday morning, another 37-year-old man from Kuku, Bau, Tailevu, lost control of his vehicle while driving along Knolly Street and collided with a concrete retaining wall.

Police say the man was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

He is now admitted to CWM Hospital.

Traffic investigations into both accidents are currently underway.
