The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is targeting an ambitious top-eight finish in the inaugural season of Super Rugby Pacific this year.

Coach Mick Byrne says they are fortunate to come into a 12-team competition that has a top eight and they have to grab that opportunity in their first year.

He says they are not shying away from the challenge that’s in front of them and are not avoiding the reality that this competition is going to be tough.

He adds they're not sitting arrogantly saying they are going after a top-eight spot but finishing as one of the top-eight teams is achievable if they put their best foot forward.

Meanwhile, the Drua takes on Melbourne Rebels at 6pm today in Melbourne in their trial match.

Their first match of the Super Rugby Pacific season is against the Waratahs at 8.45pm next Friday in Sydney.
