Swire Shipping Fijian Drua CEO, Mark Evans says he is aware that head coach Mick Byrne has applied for the Fiji Water Flying Fijians coaching position.

Evans says Byrne came to see him first before he applied and they would be delighted if Byrne gets the role.

He says if Mick gets appointed and they are very much hoping he does, then it is the Fiji Rugby Union’s decision and they are not going to try and influence that at all.

The Drua CEO says Byrne has a very good knowledge of Fijian rugby.

He says they have great confidence that whatever happens that Byrne will give it his 100 percent.

Evans says these things happen in sport, if Mick gets it or he does not get it he will still coach them for the season.

The team will play their second pre-season game against the Melbourne Rebels at 5.30pm next Friday in Melbourne.

The Fijian Drua play the Blues on the 24th of this month in Auckland in their first game of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific.
