Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu says drivers and pedestrians need to be vigilant and should be considerate of everyone's right to use our roads.
He adds that the last thing they would want is to herald in a new year with a road fatality.
Tudravu says while they have managed to reduce the number of drink driving cases they are however concerned with the number of drunk pedestrians.
He adds that if people are going out in groups to make sure that they help each other get home safely and if they need assistance to call the police if they know someone is too drunk.
The road death toll currently stands at 70 compared to 57 for the same period last year.
