Drainage work at Belego settlement in the North underway

Work to clear drainage and prevent flooding at Belego settlement in the North is now underway.

The road work is being carried out by Fiji Roads Authority contractors’ Fulton Hogan Hiways.

Fulton Hogan Hiway’s Savusavu Depot Supervisor Pradeep Singh says unblocking the drainage at the Belego section was needed as it was the main reason for flooding.

He adds that whenever there is rain, the place gets flooded and overflows onto the road and into the settlement located right by the road.

Belego settlement is located along the Transinsular Road that services more than 300 residents.

A resident and shop owner of Belego Jyotika Roy says that they now do not have to worry about the rainy season, as there will be no more flooding.
