Fiji is highly likely to have its first ever female Speaker of the House of Representatives as FijiFirst Member of Parliament Doctor Jiko Luveni has vacated her seat in parliament in the last hour.

The Electoral Commission has now declared FijiFirst candidate, Laisenia Tuitubou to replace Doctor Luveni as an elected member of parliament.

The logical explanation for this is that Doctor Jiko Luveni has vacated her seat as she will be the next Speaker of Parliament.

Dr. Jiko Luveni was the Minister for Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation in the Bainimarama led government.

She is also the President of the FijiFirst.

Any nomination for Speaker by the FijiFirst will definitely go through as they have 32 votes while the opposition only has 18 votes.

New faces expected in PM’s Ministerial line-up

Expect some new faces in Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama’s ministerial lineup this afternoon.

In an interview with Fijivillage, Bainimarama has confirmed that he is looking at all the options as there are 32 people on the government side in parliament.

Stay with us for updates.

Meanwhile Bainimarama said he wanted to win more seats in parliament.

He said SODELPA MP’s like Mosese Bulitavo were attacking the constitution during the election campaign although i-taukei land is well protected.

Bainimarama said the same people have now changed their tune and are saying that they will focus on development when they will go into parliament.

He also questions what SODELPA parliamentarian, Jiosefa Dulakiverata is talking about when he says that he is ready for the battle in parliament.

You can also catch the full 1 hour video interview with Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama right here on our website, fijivillage.com later today.
