Suva Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Dr Nur Bano Ali said the service delivery mechanism of the government is a principal debilitating factor to economic performance.
While speaking at the Fiji Business Forum yesterday, Dr Ali said time and again they hear this from various business participants.
She said they hear and know that sluggish and unprofessional workings of the regulatory processes and approvals are directly in conflict with business performance and improvement.
During the question and answer session, Attorney General and Minister for Trade Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum stressed that while there is a need to improve the turnaround time of some of the process, there is still a culture of dishonesty amongst a number of business houses and individuals.
Sayed-Khaiyum said people should not forget that some ministries are probably over cautious because there is a culture of dishonesty and they may go overboard sometimes.
