A Nasinu doctor has taken the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and it’s reporter, Savaira Tabua to court for defaming him.

The doctor is claiming $2 million saying that more than 2 million viewers had access to the FBC website and facebook.

He claims that he never gave any permission or instructions to  Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and it’s reporter to use his photograph in a report they published that said that he is a fake doctor.

This report was on the FBC website and was shared on the Mirchi FM facebook.

The doctor also claims that the photograph used caused defamation.

He said the article was understood to mean that he is not a qualified doctor and that he carries fake qualifications.

The doctor said that his friends and families are joking about this after the report.

He says that he is a qualified doctor and is employed by the Fijian Government.

The doctor said that after being advised by the viewers about the article on 9th September last year, he wrote to the Medical and Dental Council about the article and he was advised to lodge a complaint with MIDA and police.

Meanwhile High Court Judge, Justice Kamal Kumar has told FBC’s lawyer, Emmanuel Narayan to pay a cost of $500 to the doctor’s lawyer, Sunil Kumar since FBC’s lawyer did not file their statement on time.

The case is adjourned to 22nd of next month for further directions.
