Do not forget that being a Police Officer does not place you above anyone in our society - PM

“Do not forget that being a Police Officer does not place you above anyone in our society and as I serve the people as a Prime Minister you also serve them as officers of the law.”

That was the message of the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to the Police recruits while officiating at the Fiji Police Passing Out Parade in Nasova.

The Prime Minister says he was greatly dismayed by the crime statistics that was released last month.

He says we had five police officers who were charged with non sexual offences and three other officers who were charged with sexual offences.

Bainimarama says this is unacceptable.

The Prime Minister says that in Fiji today, no title and no office can be used as a shield from the rule of law.

He has urged everyone to report any bad behaviour from police officers.

Bainimarama says the government is setting new expectations for all government employees to achieve new standards of excellence which also applies to our police officers.

He says we expect the best from all police officers to make Fiji a safe and inclusive nation.

A total of 137 officers have been recruited into the force from today.

Meanwhile Krishna Murthy who is the father of 25-year-old Krishan Krishneel Murthy who was awarded the Commandments Book Prize today says he is overwhelmed with his youngest sons accomplishments.
