Dialogue Fiji to apply for a permit today

Local NGO, Dialogue Fiji will apply for a permit today after its multi‑stakeholder dialogue on Fiji’s Sugar Industry at the Pearl South Pacific Resort in Pacific Harbour was stopped by the Police yesterday.

Police confirm they told the organisers of Dialogue Fiji Forum that they need a permit before they can host the event.

Executive Director of Dialogue Fiji Nilesh Lal says they will apply for a permit today and will await the outcome of the application.

He says they have been hosting Dialogue Fiji sessions for a few years and this is the first time they have been asked to get a permit.

Lal says he was informed by the Superintendent of Police, Tevita Waqabaca that they cannot hold the dialogue as they do not have a permit.

The three‑day program included panel discussions and facilitate group dialogue on a range of themes relating to the sugar industry.

The Panelists of the dialogue included NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad, Dr Ganesh Chand, Nilesh Lal, Jone Dakuvula, Aman Nath and Attar Singh.
