Deferring school resumption date or relocating students an option - Seruiratu

A number of options are now being considered before the beginning of the 2021 school year next month.

The Minister for National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu says the options include deferring the new school date or relocating students to other schools in the area.

He says they will come to that decision once they make a thorough assessment adding that decision will be made by the Ministry of Education based on their recommendations.

The Minister says they do not have the exact number of schools which sustained damages at the moment.

He adds a combined team from the Ministry of Economy, Housing, and Education are particularly focusing on schools.

According to initial assessments by the Education Ministry, 28 schools were damaged by TC Yasa.
