The deadline for digital registration of existing companies, foreign companies and business name holders under the Companies Act 2015 has been extended to 31st March 2021.
Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they had already granted an extension until 31st December 2020 due to COVID-19 and they are granting a second extension due to the devastation caused by TC Yasa.
He has applauded the thousands of companies and businesses which have digitally registered despite an extremely challenging period for the economy.
The National Federation Party had earlier called on the government to extend the deadline till 31st July next year.
Leader, Professor Biman Prasad says many businesses particularly sole traders have informed him the process to register businesses on the digital platform is not easy as it is made out to be.
Professor Prasad says many business owners have also told him that they have already registered all their details but no confirmation has been given.
Professor Prasad says it is clear that when the digital registration was launched, government did not clearly outline the work required by businesses in completing the process.
