Dakuni village will no longer worry about high tides and big waves as their new village seawall worth $70,000 was opened by Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday.
Village consultant Savenaca Kamikamica said it is a memorable day for the villagers as they got to chat with the Prime Minister and other government officials to raise their concerns about their village.
Apart from Dakuni Village, $15,000 was used to build a seawall at Dakui Beqa village.
Kamikamica said their next plan is to fundraise for their road around the island where every member of the village around Fiji and abroad will have to give in $250 each for their project which includes their new boat, roads and renovating their church.
Commodore Bainimarama has assured that the government has put aside $100,000 for upgrading of the seawall around Beqa Island.
Meanwhile, some issues that were raised during the talanoa sessions include youth seeking assistance from the government for farming tools for their five year plan and the need for a V-Drain around the village.
