Daily Post has misreported and I would advise against any panic. We don't know the election date.

Those are the comments of Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem following our questions after there was a suggestion of general elections in November in Fiji in a Vanuatu Daily Post article on facebook quoting Saneem.

The Vanuatu media article is being widely circulated on social media, and many people are raising questions about it.

Saneem stresses in any event, he does not know the election date, and they misreported.

Under the Fijian Constitution, only the Prime Minister advises the President to issue the Writ of Elections, and based on that, the elections date is announced.

Saneem was in Vanuatu observing the snap election earlier this week as part of the United Nations Development Programme’s election program.

We have sent questions to Vanuatu Daily Post and are awaiting their response.
