Flying Fijians coach Samu Domoni Junior said critics of the famous “haka” could break-dance before games if they like but they could not stand in the way of Pacific tradition.
Domoni’s comments comes as South Africa coach Peter De Villiers said the pre-match war dances were becoming overexposed during the Rugby World Cup and were in danger of losing their impact.
Fiji will face Samoa tomorrow in a match where both teams will perform their intimidating dances before kickoff at Eden Park in front of tens of thousands of fans.
Domoni said people can say whatever they think, but it’s tradition and added people can break-dance or do whatever pleases their fancy.
Fiji captain Deacon Manu has also dismissed De Villiers as a bit of a spin doctor and said the “haka” and “cibi” in Fiji and the “sivatau” in Samoa would give important pointers about both teams.
Meanwhile, the Flying Fijians need to maintain their focus for the crucial match against Samoa tomorrow.
Former Wallaby and 2007 Flying Fijians coach, Ilivasi Tabua said it will come down to the individual performance of players.
Meanwhile, Fijivillage took to the streets of Suva and spoke to members of the public in light of the Fiji-Samoa match tomorrow.
