Remand prisoner Edward Nand [Left]

The Fiji Corrections Service is strongly denying claims by lawyer Sunil Gosai that his client, remand prisoner Edward Nand was assaulted by Corrections officers while in custody.

They say Nand was assaulted by another prisoner due to personal differences resulting in the injuries.

Fiji Corrections says their Medics Unit had attended to the prisoner and treated the lacerations arising from the two prisoners altercation.

They are advising Sunil Gosai to report factual information regarding the prisoner's claim instead of listening to one side of the story which is unconfirmed and in this case was false.

Gosai had raised in Nand’s sentencing hearing in the High Court on Friday that his client informed him of the assault, whereby Justice Bull ordered that Nand be taken for treatment at CWM Hospital.
