Continuous lightning activity causes power cuts in Viti Levu

Continuous lightning activity causes power cuts in Viti Levu

Expect power to be restored to the whole of Viti Levu in the next 2 to 3 hours.

Energy Fiji Limited says Viti Levu has been experiencing heavy rain, thunder, and persistent lightning, particularly in the interior and highland areas, over the past few days.

As a result of this adverse weather, a major power outage occurred at 2:08pm today.

The continuous lightning activity affected the 132,000-volt transmission line, disrupting electricity supply from the Wailoa Power Station and causing power cuts for customers across Viti Levu.

EFL teams are working to restore power in a safe and systematic manner while addressing the fault to ensure full supply recovery.

They have successfully restored 80 percent of the power supply in the Central Division and 20 percent in the Western Division
