Contact Police if you are having certain meetings - ACP Henry Brown

Police have today made it clear that people and organizations planning to have public meetings or closed door meetings or workshops involving people from outside their organization, should contact the police.

Assistant Police Commissioner Operations Henry Brown said since the Public Emergency Regulation is in place, people should contact the nearest police station or the National Command Centre at Totogo in Suva to avoid confusion.

Brown said the police officers will assess the agenda of the meetings and advice whether a permit is needed before the meeting goes ahead.

Last Friday, a meeting of the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement (FWRM) was stopped at Pacific Harbour.

Permanent Secretary for Information Sharon Smith-Johns said the claim in relation to the FWRM incident is that they did not cooperate with the police.
