Common name ‘Fiji Islander’ not in the 1997 constitution
CFL News Director Vijay Narayan with National Federation Party President Tupou Draunidalo

The common name for all citizens was not Fiji Islanders under the 1997 constitution.

Although some parties have been saying that they want the common name to be Fiji Islander as in the 1997 constitution, it is not in the document.

On Straight Talk last night, National Federation Party President, Tupou Draunidalo reiterated that NFP is happy with Fiji Islander and any changes would require consultation with the people.

However our News Director, Vijay Narayan raised the issue that Fiji Islander is not stated as a common name for all Fiji citizens in the 1997 constitution.

The 1997 constitution was then presented to Draunidalo and People’s Democratic Party President, Lynda Tabuya on the show to confirm this.
