There is not to be another internet disruption.
That is the stand of the Commerce Commission as they look into the incidents of last Friday where FINTEL switched off Telecom Fiji’s access to the international gateway which resulted in internet outage from 7am to 10am on Friday.
This is after some unresolved billing issues between the two companies.
Commission Chairman Doctor Mahendra Reddy said that the disruption cost businesses who were dependant on internet services a lot in losses and also affected Government.
He added that he has spoken to both parties and added that they have been warned.
Meanwhile, FINTEL while they say that they will cooperate with the Commerce Commission in their investigation, maintain that they were in the right as they had given prior notice before the cutting off of Telecom’s access to the Southern Cross cables.
On Friday, international flights out of the Nadi International Airport were stopped for close to two hours as a result of the disruption.
