The events of last night served as a stark reminder of the collective effort needed to tackle the problem of inadequate drainage, particularly in our immediate vicinity.

NDMO Director, Vasiti Soko has highlighted this in regards to how blocked drains had caused the flooding of the Rewa Bridge on the Nausori Town end, which was finally resolved at midday today.

Soko says it is essential that we all take responsibility for ensuring that drains and water channels adjacent to our homes are kept clear.

She says these proactive measures will facilitate unhindered water flow, particularly during times of heavy rain.

The NDMO Director says they are in constant communication with all four divisional commissioners to continuously assess the situation on the ground.

She says they have also been receiving regular updates from the Fiji Police Force on updates from their deployments on the ground, and are pleased to note that there have been zero reports of flood-related injuries or casualties.
