All lawyers in the Fiji Times sedition trial will be giving their closing submissions next Tuesday.
The second witness of Fiji Times Limited, Richard Naidu from Munro Leys who provides training for the staff of the Editorial Department told the High Court that anyone from the editorial department could seek legal advice from them.
When questioned by Fiji Times lawyer, Wylie Clarke if at some point in time, the law firm had relayed to Fiji Times that a particular story cannot go because of legality issues, Naidu said that the stories were emailed to them.
Naidu says that the stories sent to them for checking did not need the lawyers input but just needed legal advice.
When further questioned by Clarke on what sort of training was provided by the Munro Leys lawyers, Naidu said that the Editorial Department which includes Nai Lalakai staff was trained on how to report without the company being sued.
Fiji Times Limited, Hank Arts and Josaia Waqabaca have pleaded not guilty to sedition while Fred Wesley and Anare Ravula have pleaded not guilty to aiding and abetting sedition.
It is alleged that Fiji Times printed the Nai Lalakai newspaper which contained an article which had content with a seditious intention to promote feelings of ill will and hostility between classes of the population.
