Close to $7 million have been lost in financial scams - Buksh
Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit, Razim Buksh.

The Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit, Razim Buksh says to date there have been over 30 cases and close to $7 million have been lost in financial scams over a span of six years.

While speaking in the E-Commerce and Consumer Protection Workshop, Buksh says people will receive notifications through social media almost everyday that somebody is offering free loan or investments proposals which runs into millions of dollars.

Buksh says once people get hooked into such non-existent proposals, the scammers will ask for money to clear the funds to be sent.

He says the money does not exist as it will be a scam.

Buksh says they are also currently seeing inheritance or blessing scam where some people use religion and faith as a bait to attract Fijians particularly the vulnerable community like widows.
