Chiefs thrash Moana Pasifika 85-7, reclaim top spot in Super Rugby Pacific

The Chiefs thrashed Moana Pasifika 85-7 last night in the Super Rugby Pacific match with a dominant performance and went back to the top of the Super Rugby Pacific table with 46 points.

This is Chief’s highest-ever winning margin in this season.

Moana entered the match eyeing a place in the finals, but hopes were quickly dashed by Chiefs onslaught from the opening whistle.

Winger Leroy Carter and scrumhalf Cortez Ratima were unstoppable, scoring a hat-trick.

Shaun Stevenson set the tone early, crossing in the 8th minute for the opening try, lock Tupou Vaa’i followed soon after, and from there, the floodgates opened.

Damian McKenzie, Quinn Tupaea, and Ratima all added tries before halftime.

The Chiefs led 31-0 at the halftime.

Super Rugby Pacific Player of the Year Ardie Savea scored for Moana in the 48th minute.

With the victory, the Chiefs have secured a top-two finish.

They will face the Highlanders in Dunedin to finish the regular season, with the minor premiership wrapped up with a win.

Meanwhile, Moana must win their next game and rely on other results going their way to earn a historic first playoff.

Meanwhile, in another match last night, Waratahs edged Western Force 22-17.
