Charges dropped

Charges in relation to the distribution of information about a false prophecy by a Nadi pastor have been dropped against former Fiji Visitors Bureau Chief Executive, Viliame Gavoka.

Gavoka was charged with Reverend Laione Lutunacevamaca last year.

Fijivillage has received confirmation that the DPP’s office has filed a nolle prosequi which means that the prosecutors have decided to discontinue the case against Gavoka and the charges against him have been dropped.

It was earlier alleged that Gavoka sent emails to the country’s tourist operators about the false prophecy of a disaster to hit Fiji last year.

He was charged with one count of malicious act.   

Meanwhile the DPPs office has refused to change the charge laid against Reverend Laione Lutunacevamaca.

Reverend Lutunacevamaca appeared before Magistrate Alofa Seruvatu today charged with one count of malicious act where it is alleged that he breached the Public Order Act by distributing information to cause public panic in relation to the prophecy he made in June last year.

The case has been deferred for another 14 days to allow his lawyer Aseri Vakaloloma time to go through all the disclosures.
