The Chairman of the Navukavu Qoliqoli Committee, Tuimafelo Hemo, has called on people who use their fishing ground to only catch what can sustain them and their families and not to go beyond the taboo area.

Hemo, who is also the Head of Mataqali Laselase in the Province of Rewa, says he has seen people doing illegal fishing, and this has grown in recent weeks as people are suffering.

He says he does not want to chase people away as they also need to eat and feed their families, however, he advises them to only catch what can sustain them.

The Chairman says they have also set aside a taboo area where USP Maritime students can do their research, but it is disheartening to see that some people continue to fish in this taboo area.

He hopes that people will adhere to the taboo.

Hemo also highlighted that the members of Mataqali Laselase have approved future developments on their land, such as a shopping mall, and industrial and residential homes.
