Cane farmers warned of fake agents demanding commission

Fake agents are allegedly calling cane farmers and demanding them to pay them a commission of more than $1,000 to receive a certain grant approved under their name.

Sugar Cane Growers Council Acting CEO Sunil Chaudhary stresses there is no such grant and no such scheme will require farmers to pay a deposit or a commission into someone’s personal account.

Chaudhary confirms they have lodged a report with Police.

He adds the caller claims to be a staff of the Council and requests for the farmers’ bank account details then asks that the farmer deposit the commission immediately into their M-Paisa account.

He is advising farmers to contact the Council if they are unsure of anything in relation to their grant.
