As Fiji could have general elections as early as 6 months from now, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says campaigning and activities by political parties have increased around the country.
Saneem says the Writ of Elections has been confirmed to be issued sometime after the 6th of April, 2018.
He adds that the campaigning activities are expected to continue to intensify next year.
Saneem stresses that the most important stakeholders in any election are the voters and the Fijian Elections Office will at all times work to protect the voters from unethical or unfair campaign practices.
He reiterated that voters must be allowed to exercise their right to choose their preferred candidate and vote for them without any form of threat, intimidation or inducement.
The Supervisor of Elections has also given out a timely reminder to political parties and campaigners to adhere to the Electoral Act and the Code of Conduct for the political parties and to ensure that voters are not misled.
He says that the Fijian Elections Office will refer any reports of malpractice in campaigning to FICAC for investigation.
Saneem says that to further facilitate the protection of voters, they can contact the Fijian Elections Office with their complaints on the number 8912685 or email, complaints@feo.com.fj
