A family in Cakaudrove whose home got damaged by strong winds during Tropical Cyclone Yasa is planning to use a cave close to their home as an evacuation centre if the weather intensifies.

Ana Matakece of Qaranikula Settlement in Cakaudrove says when the category 5 storm wreaked havoc in the Northern Division, they took shelter in a corner of their damaged home for almost 11 hours and they do not want to go through this again.

Matakece says they have discussed as a family that they will evacuate to a cave which is near their home since the evacuation centre is quite far.

The Naviavia villager says they have also stored up food and water that can last them a week or two. Matakece says TC Yasa has taught them to be vigilant and to always be prepared.
