The Japanese Government will provide Fiji a grant of about $27.2 million for the procurement of a disaster response multi-purpose vessel.

This comes as the Cabinet endorsed the signing of Exchange of Notes and related documents, with the Government of Japan for the procurement of the vessel under the Japan Economic Social Development Programme.

Cabinet says the vessel will be equipped with the latest navigation system to safeguard against potential damage and disasters as well as necessary support machinery that are required for loading and unloading general cargo and goods.
