There is a great need for this sort of traditional ceremony as it is fading away in this day and age.

These were the sentiments of the Prime Minister and President of COP 23 Voreqe Bainimarama at the Vakasenuqanuqa which was held today at the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs grounds in Suva to welcome the COP 23 delegates.

Bainimarama says the “Vakasenuqanuqa“ is not just to show the traditional greeting procedure to our children and grandchildren but to also show the different races in Fiji how it is done.

He says that he is delighted to have been accorded this welcome ceremony as the Minister for iTaukei Affairs.

Bainimarama says this has been an important part of the iTaukei identity.

Present at the welcome ceremony were COP23 delegates, Ministry officials and the men from Provinces of Naitasiri, Lau and Cakaudrove who performed the traditional ceremony.
